ABOUT:
An exclusive solo piano concert by Niels Lan Doky at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art on November 10, 2026, at 20:00.
Pianist and composer Niels Lan Doky’s fiancée, Mayte Garcia, enjoys falling asleep to calm and peaceful music. To comfort her, Niels recorded a series of improvised solo piano pieces exclusively for her – never intending them for public release. But Mayte loved the recordings so much that she encouraged him to share them publicly so others could experience their soothing qualities.
“It is the softest, slowest and most intimate I have ever played,” says Niels Lan Doky. “Composition is truly improvisation in slow motion—a compelling journey where each note leads to, or chooses, the next. Aiming for Mayte’s dream state as I played to her heart was a deep and beautiful experience for me.”
The resulting album, Mayte’s Dream, will be released in 2026 and features eighteen tracks of exquisite, tranquil piano music. It stands as a testament to the power of intimate creation and the beauty found in stillness.
The first half of this concert will consist of improvised solo piano music in the same intimate spirit as the new album, created spontaneously in the moment. The second half will consist of solo piano reinterpretations of a selection of Doky’s most celebrated compositions, offering familiar melodies recast in their purest and most personal form.
