Mayte’s Dream began as something never intended for an audience. Pianist and composer Sir Niels Lan Doky’s fiancée, Mayte Garcia, loves falling asleep to calm, peaceful music, and Niels began recording improvised solo piano pieces especially for her. Created simply to bring her a sense of peace, the recordings gradually became something more. Mayte was so moved by them that she encouraged him to share the music with others.

“It is the softest, slowest and most intimate I have ever played,” says Niels Lan Doky. “Composition is truly improvisation in slow motion—a compelling journey where each note leads to, or chooses, the next. Aiming for Mayte’s dream state as I played to her heart was a deep and beautiful experience for me.”

Those private recordings became the inspiration for Mayte’s Dream, a new album of reflective and dreamlike solo piano music released in 2026 — an exploration of stillness, intimacy and the spontaneous nature of creation.

At Musikhuset Aarhus, Doky brings this musical universe to the stage. The first part of the concert is devoted to completely spontaneous solo piano improvisations, composed in the room and in the moment. In the second, he turns to his own musical history, presenting stripped-back solo interpretations of some of his best-known compositions and familiar melodies.

A concert where no two moments - and no two performances - can ever be exactly the same.
