ABOUT

“Ella and Louis” is a studio album by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong released in October 1956 and recorded on August 16 of the same year at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles. This inspired collaboration was masterminded by producer Norman Granz. Both artists were riding high at this stage in their careers, and Granz assembled a stellar quartet of Oscar Peterson (piano), Buddy Rich (drums), Herb Ellis (guitar) and Ray Brown (bass). The album was called a "pinnacle of popular singing" and in 2000 it was added to Colin Larkin's All Time Top 1000 Albums. Björk chose the album as one of her favorites in a 1993 Q magazine feature. "I love the way Ella and Louis work together," she remarked. "They were opposites in how they sung, but were still completely functional together, and respectful of each other." Tonight’s performers previously stunned audiences and garnered standing ovations when they performed this same program for the  Autumn Jazz Festival 2018 at the National Museum.
